Accommodation and Arrival Information


Jury members and observers will stay in air-conditioned rooms at Halls of Residence, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), while students will stay in student hostel rooms (non-airconditioned but with ceiling fan) at National University of Singapore (NUS).

Accommodation for jury members, observers and students will be provided from 8 July 2012 (Sunday) to 15 July 2012 (Sunday).


The following items will be provided in each room:

  • Mattress
  • Pillow
  • Pillowcase
  • Bed sheet
  • Blanket

A special souvenir IBO 2012 bath towel and one face towel will be given to everyone upon registration when they arrive.

Jury members, observers and students are advised to bring their personal toiletries (e.g., tooth brush, toothpaste, creams, soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc.), travel iron and hair dryer.

Electricity in Singapore is 230 volts AC, 50 Hz. Electrical sockets in Singapore generally accept one type of plug (British Standard BS1363) with two parallel flat pins and a ground pin. You are advised to bring a plug adaptor suitable for your electrical equipment.

Common (shared) bathroom and toilet facilities are available to all hall residents.

Pantries with basic shared facilities (e.g., hot water and microwave oven) are available at jury/observer accommodation.

Canteens, cafes, food court, fast food outlets, and vending machines are located within and near the residential halls.

Other information

Accommodation for jury members and observers is just a stone’s throw from the National Institute of Education (NIE) where vetting of questions and examinations will be held.

Singapore has a smoking ban in public places. The NUS and NTU universities are also designated as smoke-free campuses. Smoking is prohibited within the campus.

Arrival Information

Arrival on Sunday, 8 July 2012

Airport pickups at Changi Airport Singapore directly to NTU and NUS for registration and accommodation will be available. Unless otherwise requested, Teams will be met in the Arrival Hall based on the flight information provided in the online registration form.

Arrival before Sunday, 8 July 2012 

Teams arriving before 8 July 2012 (Sunday) are advised to stay in one of the four recommended hotels. You have to contact the hotel of your choice and book your accommodation. You will travel on your own from the Airport to the hotel of your choice.

[UPDATED] Teams will be picked-up on Sunday, 8 July 2012 at 1300 hrs, if they have indicated their pickup location as one of these four hotels, and brought to the residential halls at NTU and NUS for registration and accommodation. Teams should assemble in the hotel lobby by 1300 hrs and the buses will leave each hotel promptly at 1330 hrs. Please provide the relevant hotel and pickup information in the online registration form.
